About us
We are an incorporated, not-for profit association of GPs with 180 members. Based in the city of Lismore in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, Australia, our area includes the surrounding towns of Alstonville, Ballina, Bangalow, Brunswick Heads, Byron Bay, Casino, Evans Head, Kyogle, Lennox Head, Maclean, Mullumbimby and Yamba.

What is a network/division of general practice?
Divisions/networks of general practice are formal organisations of GPs within a geographical area, which were set up by the Commonwealth Government in 1993. Nationwide, 121 networks/divisions provide a framework for GPs to interact with each other and with health services, community groups and the public.
  • In the Northern Rivers network, this happens through health projects such as immunisation, mental health, and youth health. Specific projects also assist GPs with practice related issues, such as the practice liaison, practice nurse, IMIT, accreditation, NPS (National Prescribing Service), EPC (Enhanced Primary Care), MAHS (More Allied Health Services), and Home Medicines Review projects.
  • Continuing professional development (CPD) and GP recruitment are catered for through the CPD/locum and rural workforce projects.
  • The media department and the community liaison project keep the public informed of the network's activities. It produces the network's bi-monthly magazine GPSpeak and monthly/regular newsletters, The Immune Response, The In Practice Times, Down the Wire (Collabs), Aged Care News, and HMR FAXnews, as well as a bi-monthly community newsletter, GP Community Briefs.
  • The NRGPN publishes three websites: the organisational website, a clinical website, Medicine Australia (www.medicineau.net.au) and a vaccination website (www.vaccination.org.au).
Divisions/networks are primarily funded under the Commonwealth Health and Family Services, Divisions of General Practice Program. Funding also comes from NSW Health and the private sector.

The NRGPN has positioned itself as a key regional stakeholder in health matters, providing a vehicle for GPs to voice concerns or address issues in a meaningful way.
