A women’s health nurse can complement the GP’s work |
A women’s health nurse can provide a patient with detailed information on a range of issues including pregnancy counselling, discussion of options, termination of pregnancy information and referral, which a busy GP may not have time for.
“Women’s health nursing can complement the work of GPs,” says Andrea Brooks, who has been the women’s health nurse for the past ten years at Lismore & District Women’s Health Centre.
Andrea receives referrals, both formal and informal, from busy GPs and she looks forward to this continuing. She is available for half-hour or one hour appointments, face-to-face or by telephone.
Andrea’s areas of expertise are sexual and reproductive health. She is also a registered midwife and has certificates in family planning and women’s health nursing.
Her special interest is in pregnancy and postnatal care and support. Since May 2003 she has facilitated a weekly, open group for pregnant and postnatal women. Pre and post natal yoga classes, by an accredited teacher, are part of this group. Often a support network results for the women participating in this group.
She is also available for group education in schools and in the community. Subjects dealt with include safe sex, contraception, sexuality and STI information.
Andrea Brooks can be contacted on 6621 9800 or ldwhc@nrg.com.au.
