Increase in Pap requests expected |
Cervical Screening NSW is sending reminder letters to all women in NSW who have not been screened for the last four years as a strategy to increase screening participation rates and prevent cervical cancer in under-screened woman.
The letters will be sent until May 2007 advising women that they are overdue and encouraging them to have a Pap test with their local GP as soon as possible.
It is envisaged that GPs may receive enquiries about the letter and receive an increased demand for Pap tests, but this strategy also provides an opportunity for them to claim the Practice Incentive Payment of $35 for screening a 4 yearly unscreened woman.
Details of these under-screened women will be taken from the NSW Pap Test Register and GPs are encouraged to contact the register on 1800 671 693 if they have any questions about their patient’s screening histories.
