Meet Spike at Alstonville’s Healthy Living Expo |
Spike, the immunisation echidna mascot of the Northern Rivers Division of General Practice and the North Coast Public Health Unit, will be at the North Coast Healthy Living Expo in Alstonville on Saturday 30 April and Sunday 1 May.
The division will be sharing a large stand with the NCAHS Priority Health Care Program respiratory and cancer coordinators.
The division will be promoting general practice, as well as its new parenting groups, and with the Public Health Unit, immunisation. Some GP registrars with North Coast GP Training will also attend over the weekend to talk to young people interested in studying medicine.
NCAHS respiratory coordinator Cecily Barrack will be promoting local pulmonary rehabilitation programs for people with respiratory disease and doing simple lung function testing to check how well people’s lungs are working. People will also have an opportunity to talk to a trained asthma educator.
NCAHS cancer coordinator Sara Hurren will be promoting a new DVD resource for young women diagnosed with early breast cancer, a new support group for young women with breast cancer which is about to start in the area, and the Dragons Abreast organisation, which promotes and organises dragon boat racing for women with breast cancer.
